Acid Reflux

Bodybuilders who take supplements can get acid reflux. Most people take antacids to relieve this condition. But acid reflux is caused by diets that are too acidic. Bodybuilding supplements are highly acidic because many contain amino acids. High acidity in the body can lead to many health problems. One must balance acid food intake with alkaline foods, such as vegetables, fruits and sweet potatoes.

Candidiasis and Leaky Gut Syndrome

Most bodybuilding supplements use whey and wheat in their products. Whey is an amino acid found in milk. Both whey and wheat are high in gluten, a protein with a high glycemic index. Taking too many supplements, as bodybuilders tend to do, can tax the digestive tract. Over time, this can erode the natural bacteria in the digestive tract and colon and spur a condition known as candidiasis. This is an overproduction of candida albicans, which is a yeast-like fungus. Candidiasis can cause a number of problems, such as migraines, gastritis, diarrhea and even autoimmune diseases (i.e., Crohn's disease, multiple chemical sensitivities).

Candidiasis is also associated with leaky gut syndrome, a condition where the yeast actually perforates the lining of the small intestines. This can cause undigested food, toxins and foreign bacteria to enter the bloodstream and overtax the liver.

10 Diet Tips for Acid Reflux, Heartburn and Gerd

Healthy Acid Reflux Food

You can easily substitute good food for junk, over-processed foods and learn better eating habits. Here is a short list to help you get started. To get more diet tips for an acid reflux diet visit Acid Reflux Diet Tips

1.Eat Smaller Meals More Often: If you are only eating one or two and possible three heavy meals a day, you need to cut this down to 6 or 7 smaller meal. Having a heavy stomach full of food will only aggravate an already volatile condition.

2.No White Flour Products: Substitute whole grains for breads and pasta. These types of carbohydrates are soothing to the stomach and digest faster than the white flour alternatives. White flour products have been stripped of all of their nutritional value during their processing. The manufacturers then add synthetic vitamins back in. Unfortunately, they don't add enough to make a difference so you are basically eating empty, high caloric food.

Did you know that you would have to eat 5-1/2 pieces of white bread to get the same nutrients found in one slice of whole grain bread?

3.No Plastic Cheese: Processed cheese should not be eaten. It is full of chemical additives with minute amounts of nutrients. The worst are the processed single serving slices. Instead eat real cheese, not low-fat, but real cheese. Believe it or not, the amount of fat that is found in real cheese is insignificant when compared to the other harmful fats found in processed meats such as salami, pepperoni, sausage, bacon and hot dogs.

4.Eat Fresh Apples Every Day: Apples are a miracle fruit when it comes to turning an acidic stomach to an alkaline stomach. Try to a fresh raw apple, skins and all after every meal or as part of a meal. You will be amazed!

5.Don't Go to Bed on a Full Stomach:Eat you dinner meal at least two hours before going to bed to give your stomach a chance to digest it's food. If you get hungry before bed, eat an apple and have a cup of ginger tea. It will help to keep the acid level down and you will sleep better.

6.Learn to Eat More Fruit and Vegetables: Fruits and vegetables are a real big part of a healthy diet. Make yourself eat more of them. Substitute raw vegetable for a snack instead of French fries. If you have a difficult time eating that many vegetables, then get a juicer and juice your veggies into a healthful drink.

7.Only Eat Live Culture Yogurt: Read the labels when you go to the grocery store and only buy the yogurt that has all 6 of the live culture bacteria in them. The use of prescription drugs, especially antibiotics, kill the natural bacteria in the stomach that is suppose to digest your food. This is another big cause of acid reflux. Eating 8-oz. (1 cup) of this type of yogurt every day for the first month, will help you to get rid of acid reflux for good. Eating this type of yogurt will also prevent and get rid of yeast infections. Use this yogurt to replace the sour cream in your diet too.

8.Papaya : If you have access to fresh papaya, eat half of one for breakfast every morning with half a cup of yogurt and you will see a huge improvement in the amount of acid your body is producing. Papayas contains papain which will aide in the digestive process along with the live cultures in the yogurt. Squirt a slice of lemon over the flesh of the papaya for added flavor and Vitamins before eating, or sprinkle with a Tablespoon of wheat germ for a nutty flavor. If papaya is not available in your area, pick up some papaya tablets at the health food store. Read the label to be sure they do not contain any salt, sugar or sorbitol (sugar substitute).

9.Eat Garlic & Parsley: This is one of the biggest myths you will see on line, not to eat garlic. Garlic is one of the great plant healers. The garlic must be crushed or chopped up to release the components. Don't buy garlic that is shipped in from over seas. All garlic that comes into America from over seas has to be irradiated before entering the country. This kills the healing properties. Only buy local grown garlic. Parsley is another great healer. It is not only for garnish. Get fresh parsley, mince it up with the garlic and add it all fish, chicken or meat dishes. Add parsley minced (stems too) to all types of salads, soups and stews. Add a handful into the juicer when juicing other vegetebles to pack a healthy punch.

10.Eat Raw Almonds: There is a lot of powerful good things packed into these little tear-shaped nuts that are very beneficial to people that suffer from acid reflux. They are packed full of protein and amino acids. Grind them up into almond milk for another healthy food to replace junk food in the

Myths About Acid Reflux Foods to Avoid

I am tired of reading all of the nonsense written by people that don't have a clue and are just parroting what they have seen or heard. Many buy into this nonsense because the medical and pharmaceutical companies would like us to believe to keep us hooked on their damaging drugs. It's all about the money!

1.Cabbage: Cabbage contains glutamine. Cabbage juice was a favorite food among the North American Natives, and with the European peasants, as a natural heartburn and acid reflux cure, because of it's alkaline nature. Juicing cabbage with other vegetables are very beneficial to the body. All vegetables are alkaline by nature.

2.Cranberries: Cranberries contain more than a dozen compounds including flavanols, catechins, and anthocyanins that all aide with digestion, act as immune system boosters and antioxidants. The tart little berries are also high in Vitamin C and tannins. If you are one that is bothered by the fresh juice, you may buy cranberries in powdered form to be mixed into other juices or water or you can take it in capsule form. These berries should not be eliminated from the diet.

3.Garlic: Garlic was mention back in the 10 Diet Tips for Acid Reflux module, but here is a brief explanation to the virtues of garlic. Garlic is one of nature's most important plants as it contains a bounty of healthful chemicals and components, such as antibiotic and anti-inflammatory agents.

Garlic contains an amino acid called alliin. Alliin contains garlic's active ingredient, allicin that does it's work in the body to prevent disease and it prevents the attacks of heartburn, acid reflux and gerd, and that is just a small amount of the power of this little plant. If it truly does bother you (be sure it isn't something else the garlic was mixed with), then it is another thing that can be thrown in the juicer with other alkaline vegetables. It will not bother you then.

4.Onions: Onions among many things, is another natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory agent. Onions help to build the immune system against infections such as E.coli and salmonella, and is effective against tuberculosis and infections of the urinary tract, such as cystitis.

The North American Native Indians used onions to aide in digestion. Onions are an excellent source of quercetin and alliin (the same amino acid found in garlic, but not as much). Quercetin is a bioflavonoid that is one of he most effective compounds for anti-inflammatory bowel and stomach disease.

Onions should not be deep fried as they lose their healing components when cooked in this method. There are many more uses in the body for onions. If eating raw onions does affect you, then throw them in the juicer with other alkaline vegetables.

5.Potatoes: Raw potato juice has anti-inflammatory components and also aides in the elimination of acidic conditions in the stomach. Most of the vitamins are in the skin, so be sure to leave the skins on when juicing. Potatoes are beneficial to stomach ulcers, as well as other stomach disorders. Raw potato juice is great for mixing with other vegetable juices, such as apples, cabbage, carrots, cranberries, cucumbers, pineapple, and radishes. Potatoes are alkaline in nature.

French fried potatoes should be avoided because of the grease they are fried in. Deep frying also removes the potatoes healing properties. Fast food dives such as McDonald's adds sugar and preservatives to their fries during their processing.

6.Yogurt: Dairy products bother about half of the people that have come under my advisement for herbal healing. Processed cheeses, especially the single-serve slices, which are full of chemicals and very little nutrition, should be eliminated from the diet. Milk, sour cream and ice cream products turn into lactose in the system which is just another form of sugar.

This sugar does backfire on some; however there is one dairy product that should not be avoided. The one dairy product that is a must and is tolerated by most (even many lactose intolerant people) is yogurt that contains all of the 6 necessary live cultures. These six live active cultures in the yogurt gives your body its natural balance.

The natural bacteria that belongs in the stomach is killed off by drugs (especially antibiotics and acid reflux medication), stress, pollution, alcohol, smoking tobacco, and aging. These live cultures need to be replace often to keep the acid balance in the body, to strengthen the immune system, and to support the white blood cells in the body. Yogurt is an excellent substitute for sour cream. Live culture yogurt is not only a necessary heartburn, acid reflux, and gerd food, it is a necessary food in every ones diet.

Low-Fat Protein

Protein foods include meat, poultry, fish and dairy products. These foods have high saturated fat content, which may relax the esophageal muscle and trigger symptoms. The fat content in heavy meals aggravates the situation. However, you can get your necessary protein and reduce acid reflux symptoms by choosing lean beef, poultry without skin and low-fat or nonfat dairy products. Fish usually contains less saturated fat than meat or poultry. Protein is not only necessary for its nutritional value, but it may reinforce the esophageal muscle after frequent acid reflux because of its muscle-building capabilities. Over time, frequent acid reflux can damage the esophagus.

Change your diet and eating habits. Sometimes, what you are eating and how you are eating might be causing your acid reflux. Changes you can make to your diet and eating habits include:

Avoid eating quickly. Do not eat meals in less than fifteen minutes. Chew your food thoroughly.Cut back or eliminate fatty foods. Fats take longer to digest than other foods, staying in the stomach longer. This results in the stomach generating higher amounts of acid.Stay away from highly acidic foods. Citrus fruits, chocolate, fried foods, caffeine, garlic, peppermint, and tomatoes are some foods that should be avoided to help treat acid reflux naturally. Also avoid any food that you know would provoke or worsen your acid reflux.Eat smaller meals throughout the day, rather than two or three large meals. Large meals can force the stomach to create more acid.2Make some lifestyle changes. Are you eating just before going to bed? Or exercising immediately after eating? These habits can bring on or worsen acid reflux symptoms. Lifestyle changes include:

Wait at least three hours after eating to go to bed.Exercise lightly at least one to two hours after eating.Remain in a sitting or upright position for at least 45 minutes after eating. Lying down after eating can bring on acid reflux symptoms.Stop smoking. Smoking can weaken the lower esophageal sphincter valve.Lose weight if you are overweight. Overweight people have a higher risk of developing acid reflux. Abdominal fat pushes up the stomach.Drink alcohol in moderation (not to exceed 1-2 drinks per day for women, and 2-3 drinks per day for men), or not at all.Elevate your upper body several inches when going to sleep. Acid reflux symptoms can be exacerbated when lying down. When you lie in bed, try to lie more on your left side, as the body of stomach is towards the left, so you can keep the stomach content within the body of the stomach better by lying on your left side.3Take natural supplements known to alleviate or eliminate acid reflux symptoms. The following list highlights some of the most common supplements used to treat acid reflux naturally:

Apple cider vinegar. Add 2 teaspoons or almost 10 ml to a glass of water and drink three times per day.Acid-resistant digestive enzymes.Glutamine. Add 1 tsp or almost 5 ml of this powdered amino acid with 4 ounces of water and take with each meal.Licorice root extract. Take 600 mg or 0.6 g of this herbal extract twice per day with meals.Calcium nitrate powder. Dissolve 250 mg or 0.25 g into water four times per day: once after each meal and once before bed.Aloe vera liquid. Take up to 4 ounces per day, preferably before eating.Carrot or cabbage juice. Drink one cup per day.Mastic gum. Take 500 mg or 0.5 g twice per day, after meals.Sodium bicarbonate. Add 1 tsp or almost 5 ml of baking soda in a glass of water to alleviate acid reflux symptoms.4Add other herbs, fruits and vegetables to your diet that are shown to either combat acid reflux symptoms or avoid the production of excess stomach acid. Some of these food items include:
